7/19/03 Louie, Elana, Jarret, Jon, Alex, and Ryan put on a Sketch Comedy show Above Kleptomania! Blythe, Meredith, Barrie, and Jessie show up!:
Oh boy. This is Jarret. Jarret Karlsberg. I went to camp with him and everyone else in the photos below. Today, Louie is putting on a show. Elana is in it. So is Jarret. And I am going to help them out by being the tech-guy, doing the lights and sound. I'm in the light/sound booth, and Jarret is looking in. They're putting on an improv sketch comedy show tonight. It's a half hour. Two other groups perform after them, and it all takes place at a theatre on 42nd street and 8th avenue called "Above Kleptomania." It's above the Show World sex parlor. It's a sketchy, creepy, and bizarrely charming venue, and Louie has been able to book himself and his new sketch comedy crew in there.
Before the show, backstage, preparations are made for a full and final run-thru.
This was on the table in the dressing room.
Louie plays a mummy in one of the sketches, so Elana is suiting him up.
This is a labor of love. Louie and Elana have sweated and worked hard, with the rest of the cast, to make this happen this summer. Here they embrace before the show.
Clockwise from the left, John Golbe, Alex Perlin, Jarret Karlsberg. They are resting their tired bodies, doing a talk-through of one of the sketches.
After the run through, there's about 3 hours to kill before the show. We all go to a diner on 9th avenue. Here's Louie, Elana, and Ryan Iverson, who was head-of-shop, of the Clown Shop at camp, the summer after my last.

Elana and Ryan should be married, but they're not.
Walking back from the diner, a group of people walks up behind us, and we realize that we know most of them. They are coming to see the show, because of an e-mail Elana sent them some days ago. These are people I haven't seen in years! On the far left is Blythe Sheldon! On the far right is Meredith Fuhrman and her boyfriend (I don't know him). In the middle, in the back is Barrie Golden. And in front is Elana.
In fact, this group caught up to us because we had stopped for a moment along 43rd street, to marvel at some of the things people had thrown into the street as garbage.
Louie and Ryan look on as Elana greets old friends.
Elana is greeted by Meredith Furman. She gets lifted off the Earth.
Jarret's costume. Don't ask. Just laugh. That's the idea.
That's Louie, wrapped in toilet paper, playing a mummy during the show.
Ryan and Elana have a scene together. They should be married, but they're not.
After the show I see yet another person I haven't seen in a LONG time. Jarret Karlsberg's older brother, and an old co-J.C. of mine, Jessie Karlsberg! He was wearing an interesting piece of ear-jewelry that he designed. He was a counselor in the Metal/Jewelry shop, and still keeps that art form in his life. This particular piece makes it look like his ear is pierced in a frightening way. But when he took it off, I got a good chuckle:
It simply wraps around the back of the ear. I wouldn't wear one, but it fits him nicely, and it is certainly creative.
After the show Ryan and Elana relax. They should be married, but they're not.
