11/29/04 Richard's Ceramic Knife;
Monday Night at Aaron's:

Richard was very excited about this purchase today. It's a ceramic
knife. I know it looks like the knife is white because of the proximity
to the flash, but, in fact, the knife is white in real life. It's not
metal. It's ceramic. Like a mug. And apparently it's very fragile if
pressed on from the sides, but when being used to cut, it's the
sharpest available material. I found this fascinating.

Across the street from 88 Greenwich, they are finally erecting a
building. I've been walking by for almost 2 years now, wondring why
this busy corner, with a subway entrance, had a totally undeveloped
piece of property. Now that the new building is going up and people are
talking about it, I'm starting to get the full scoop: It used to be a
three story building with a diner at the bottom that many people in my
building apparently enjoyed. But, after 9/11, they re-built a portion
of the subway line under Greenwich Street, and accidentally undermined
the foundation of the old building. It began to collapse one morning, a
month or two before I moved down to this part of the neighborhood
(December 2002), and by the evening, after it had been evacuated, it
completely imploded. Nobody was hurt, luckily. It's taken until now to
get the insurance money to begin a new building. And now that they've
started, it's going up fast. Richard and I are daily wondering if it
will open before or after we movie away.
This evening I went over to Mike and Aaron's place.

We sorted the delivery menus by region. We usually have piles for
Japanese, Chinese, Indian, Thai/Vietnamese, Italian, Mexican, and
American, but this neighborhood has so many other offerings, we find
ourselves making piles for South-East Asian, Middle-Eastern, Indian
Peninsula, Latino, North American, European, and Japanese.

This menu is very proud of being Jewish, with a star of David, right on
the top front. It's a hummus place, I think.

Mike has some grapefruit that his parents annually send him in a box. I
like to put some sugar on my grapefruit, but Mike wont have any of that!
