12/16/04 Touring More of the Old
Kahn Mansion; Rich Moves More; Erica and Elana at work:
This morning, one of the teachers I work with at the school in
the old Otto Kahn mansion allowed me to take a look at the roof of the
building. I believe it's a 5 or 6 story building.

The roof is fenced in quite well and serves as a playground for the
kids. But in the distance can be seen much of the skyline from a unique
upper east side perspective. Across Centeral Park, one can see the new
twin towers of the AOL/Time Warner Center at Columbus Circle.

Looking straight across Central Park requires looking straight across
the Resivoir, which clearly takes up almost the whol width of the park
over here. There's the famous skyline of Central Park West on the other
side.

Looking down, across 91st street, one can see the old next door
neighbor's house. I don't know whose house it originally was, but in
modern times, it's belongs to the Cooper Hewitt Design Museum.

The internal staircase is extremely romanesque, and in some ways feels
like walking through an M.C. Escher painting, with many stairs and thin
archways above.

Later on, at the apartment, Richard is still packing away the Kitchen.
All of his glassware is lined up on the kitchen counter.

And here he is, somewhat tired, it seems, pulling boxes of his stuff
down to the car.

Towards the evening, I checked in to see how Elana and Erica were
doing, setting up to tape a choral concert at the same school I was at
this morning. This room used to be where Otto Kahn had musicians
entertaining him. There's a gorgeous chandelier in the middle of the
vaulted ceiling above. The accoustics are farily awesome, from what I
can tell, and there are lutes going along the walls as a decorative
element.

I hired the two of them to shoot the play in my absence because I had
long ago agreed to accompany Natalie to her company's Christmas Party,
which was at a swanky SOHO restaurant. All four of us met up at my
apartment for dinner afterwards.
