02/01/05 Teaching Film Class:

A teacher at a High School where I've been taping the plays for three years has asked me to come into his film class and teach a bit of highly technical information about video, as he knows a great deal about films, but not the technology used in making them. I was thrilled to be asked to come in as a guest teacher, and we even went so far as to purchase equipment together, based on my reccomendations for what would be the best bang-for-the-buck.

We ended up getting a small but very useful lighting kit, which I set up in the room.

I had use of a white-board.

I wrote down some overall thoughts about how to structure a discussion of video production.

Later on in the afternoon, back in Brooklyn, Peter came home with a funny story about something that happened to him in class today. Peter is somewhat neurotically sensitive to perceived threats to his germ world. One of these palpable threats, is someone sneezing within close proximity (or onto) him. And there was a girl who sat right behind and to the side of Peter, who was sneezing somewhat regularly throughout the class, as they all sat otherwise silently, watching an in-class movie. Peter cringed violently on the inside with each sneeze, as he could almost feel it dripping down the back of his neck. He could almost see the diseased air particles, floating towards his own nostrils at hurricane force speed, utterly powerless to stop the inhalation process for long.

Of course, Peter's reaction was only visible to himself, as on the outside, he is the model of a measured man. Peter would not dare to be so passively aggressively bold, in such inescapably close quarters. At least, not consciously....

For, at the end of the class, the sneezing girl passed Peter a note as she stormed out of the room. And of course, upon reading it, Peter was too stunned to give chase.  The note read as follows:

Whoops.

And Peter was not sure what to be more perplexed about. 1) The fact that he was most likely emoting his emotions at the time, or 2) The way the girl chose to handle the situation.

We had a good laugh over this one.

And soup as well.
