02/06/05 Peter's Steamed Milk
Buns; W. Irving High School Theater; Monday Night at Aaron's:
Good morning!

Peter bought these frozen steamed milk buns from Chinatown. You're
supposed to steam them but Peter microwaved them and ate them before
they turned into hockey pucks. They taste like plain sweet bread.
This afternoon, I taped a concert in an amazing New York City space.
It's the beautiful old theatre in the turn-of-the-century Washington
Irving High School on Irving Place. The school was built opulently, but
is currently on the public school building roster, and it's maintenance
is minimal. Fairly poor kids make up the majority of the school's
student population today, bussed in from the outer-boroughs. The
theatre is still one of the more well-known musical performing spaces
in New York City.

The hallway behind the balcony, with a grand double-staircase leading
down to the entrance lobby.

Mike and I survey the location for ideas about setting up our
videography equipment. (Photo taken by Natalie).

The arched ceilng has small rectangular windows, strange for a
performing hall. The sound/light booth is in the center of the balcony,
made of old wood.

The wooden balcony has a lovely curve, and vibrates a little bit like
an elevated subway platform when someone walks on it.

We set up the equipment upstairs.

After the concert, looking down from the balcony of the lobby, to the
reception that followed.
This evening, I went to Aaron's place. Here we are, opening the
delivered food. Aaron's brother was in town, and sits on the right of
the photo.
