JUNE 2005 OBSERVATIONS:
06/01/05:
Home made (sort of) Prosciutto and Melon.

06/02/05:
Elana sets up the equipment package in my apartment as she trains to take on the role of "First Camera" operator.

Meanwhile, the couch and coffee table become a staging area for duplications.

06/05/05:
Natalie and I drive through Connecticut, have lunch in a
small town on the Long Island Sound, and return to the city after our
mini-vacation to Newport, Rhode Island.

06/06/05:
Louis sets up a microphone to hang from the ceiling as he
and Elana set up for a shoot this evening. I stopped by to make sure
everything was going smoothly.

06/07/05:
Louis and I had a taping together this afternoon down the street from
the infamous Peanut Butter & Co. They serve a home-made peanut
butter in various incarnations.

I tried an old fashioned Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich, paid more
than $5 for it, and hated it!!!! It was too trendy to be tasty.
This evening I went to Kura Sushi, and noticed that GEORGE was sitting
with some lady at another table!!! So, like a stalker, I took a photo
before going over and saying hello.

I had dessert first.

Hey!!!!

I took this photo of an add that is following a recent trend in the
subway system by being plastered on a random piece of wall, without the
borders of an advertisement frame to hem it in.
06/08/05:

Louis gets comfortable before a shoot in Manhattan.

Notice that on the specials menu at La Taqueria, the Molotes
Michoacanos seems to have "chihuahua" in it!!! I asked the waiter to be
specific about what that meant, but he just smiled and giggled. "Is
there DOG in this," I asked! He just kept giggling.
06/10/05:

On the way to a post-shoot dinner on Smith Street in Brooklyn, I got
this interestingly active shot of a bunch of bikers coming up Smith
street.
I had dinner with a few folks, most of whom worked for me this week and we celebrated the end of our craziest week in June.

Elana and her Boyfriend... having... sushi?

The rest of us give it a shot.

06/13/05:
Elana and I got a chance today to see the insides of the performing
arts center at Suny Old Westbury on Long Island. This building is
lightly used now-a-days it seems, but it looks like the height of
ultra-modern construction in 1972.

Look at the horizontal balconies. The lack of a focal point. The flying
walkways. The use of concrete pretty much everywhere. The total lack of
ornamentation. The use of railings and exposed HVAC ducts to create a
rugged but purposeful clean sparse look. The floor is shiny and has a
texture. The accoustics in this glass, steel and concrete room are
extremely full of reverb.

A weird depressed area beneath a balcony offers a chance to put in... tons of vending machines!

Why.
06/15/05:

I waited for a train back to New York City from the Greenvale station,
and I found a billboard that appealed to my sensibilities. I happen to
agree that the current plan puts people so deep that they will have to
take into account 5 to 10 minutes to "commute" up to street level, and
that blows. The un-used loop tracks would be a lovely way to bring the
Long Island Railroad into the Terminal at a normal depth. My question
is... what does someone who is not obsessed with trains think when they
see such a detailed illustration?
Later, at Jamaica, Peter and I have to take different trains and wait at different platforms.

Natalie and I go for broke by getting the Sushi for 2 at Taro.
06/17/05:

Today we set up a giant screen backstage at a shoot so that the kids who waited "in the wings" could see the show, live!
06/18/05:

Between shoots, Erica, Richard Ledley and I went to Bigelow's on the south shore for some ipswich clams... fried.

Since 1939.

Richard thoroughly taped off the outlet we used to power the projector.

Richard's job during the three 3-hour dances was to fend off attack by screaming girls, keeping the screen and projector safe.
06/19/05:
Father's Day in Manorhaven:

06/21/05:
I bought two Dance Dance Revolution Dance Pads for a new Playstation 2
so that we could have fun and perhaps exercise in the apartment!

Walking back from doing my errands in the neighborhood, I noticed a cat hanging out of a window near the sidewalk.

We played Risk this evening.

06/24/05:
Risk is a multi-day game.

06/27/05:
Elana and I were eating dinner on 44th street before shooting a play,
when she saw her old college roommate, Alex, walking by, so she ran
outside to say hello.

06/28/05:
I found an old Union Square West street sign from the days when each
borough had its own color of street sign. Manhattan was Yellow.

Looking up Broadway from Union Square.

06/29/05:
Sushi in the West Village with Peter, David and Natalie:
