08/03/05: SAN FRANCISCO TRIP - DAY 6: Hair-Cut; N-Train to Flower Market; Barnes & Noble; Gary Danko:
So, as you can tell from the last few days of photos.... my hair was as
long as it has possibly ever been. And tonight, Natalie and I have our
fancy vacation dinner planned, and I wanted to clean up my look today.
So, the hotel concierge recommended I use a barber shop across the
street from the hotel. I did. It was one of those moments of reckless
abandon perfectly suited to being on a vacation. All of the normal
nervousness I would have when trying a new hair-cutter, a stranger
recommended by a stranger, at home, melted away because I was away from
home, and I threw myself into this experience with gusto.

The result.... one of the shortest hair cuts I have ever had in my life.

I knew it was a little bit of a problem the moment I saw Natalie's face when she got a look at me.
Oh well... it'll look great in 2 weeks. :)

We went to a flower market that Natalie had read about, but it was
mostly closed down because it's mostly an overnight early-morning type
market. So we had a mediocre meal at a nearby diner, and went back to
the city center on the N train.

This was not what we were looking for.

We did run into a new modern-looking cal-train terminal station, so we checked it out for a bit.

We found a neighborhood where it seemed everything was new construction.

I love articulated trains.

This Hobart Building is amazing. A plain slab giving way to a decorative rounded top section. What's the deal here?

Mid-day pit-stop.
I wanted to off-load some of my photos to a disc, so we did so at a
Duane Reade. I had too many photos for the machine to process. So I
bought a new memory card.

So far, I've taken 1,609 photographs on this trip. Wow!
Natalie and I then went to a Barnes & Noble to buy a map for our
drive down to Los Angeles in a few days. The guy behind the desk was
super-helpful and put sticky notes on the map for us to give us some
ideas.

We went back to an art purveyor that we saw a few days ago to actually purchase some of the things we saw.

Natalie and I found these Dove ads very interesting. Natalie gave it a shot...

Back at the hotel room, we got dressed up for our fancy dinner tonight.

We were definately the best dressed people on the cable car!!

We enjoyed our meal at Gary Danko:

The meal was allright. New York has many competitors that beat this
place hands down. But we enjoyed ourselves very much, and the cheese
cart is always a highlight.

Our reservation was early enough that it was still dusk when we left.
